Jobs and the Economy
Government does not create jobs but it certainly can create an environment which helps or hinders job creation. Unfortunately, the Democrats in Denver have continually chosen the latter by showing a complete disregard for the Colorado Constitution, specifically, the TABOR amendment. Raising millions of dollars in new taxes, disguised as fees, and by ending tax exemptions, Democrats have done nothing but increase the cost of doing business in Colorado. With unemployment still too high, this is hardly the approach we should be taking to create jobs. As your Representative, I will advocate for lower taxes, fight to reduce burdensome forms and regulations for small business, and get government out of the way so businesses can maximize their potential.
Priority Based Budgeting
With so many demands on government services and uncertain revenue streams, the Legislature must do a better job prioritizing the budget. State Agencies and projects should be continually evaluated based on performance. Additionally, more money must be set aside in the rainy day fund so that our state is better prepared for economic downturns and less reliant on federal dollars. Excess revenue should be directed towards tax relief and critical infrastructure and transportation projects.
In a globalized world, human trafficking is an epidemic which unfortunately only continues to grow. This form of modern day slavery preys on and exploits the most vulnerable in our society. It’s my intent to make Colorado a leader on this issue and ensure we have the harshest of the penalties for criminals who participate in this shameful practice.
States’ Rights and the Tenth Amendment
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”–The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution
Over the past fifty years, thousands of federal mandates have been passed down to the states. Everything from healthcare to light bulbs, the federal government has increasingly told us how to live our lives. Enough is enough. It’s time for the states to reassert their constitutional authority and restore the balance of power with DC.
I’m firmly committed to defending the sanctity of life. As your Representative, I will work to promote policies which provide alternatives to abortion and place value on life at every stage.
Gun Rights and the Second Amendment
“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”-The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
The Second Amendment, as clearly outlined in the constitution, is a right, not a privilege. As such, I will vehemently defend the right of law abiding citizens to own firearms without undue interference from the government.
